Nov 29 - Mike’s abstract on cartilage fortification and catabolism prevention was accepted to the ICRS 2022 World Congress!

Nov 10 - Two Patel Lab abstracts were accepted to the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting!

October 1 - The lab receives an Intent to Award for its first grant - a Career Development Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs!

September - Jay presents the lab’s work at Brown University’s COBRE Lecture Series, the CVNR Seminar Series, and the Atlanta VA Monthly Research Meeting. Valuable data and input from the lab included!

September 1 - Adi starts in the lab as an undergraduate researcher. Welcome Adi!

August 30 - Mike and Maddie submit the first 2 ORS abstracts for the Patel Lab!

August 27 - The lab attends the annual MSK Symposium at Emory!

August 5 - Lorenzo wins the ON Literature Grant for a systematic review on bone marrow stimulation techniques!

June 1 - Lorenzo starts as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab - Welcome Lorenzo!

May 4 - Sonia Bansal’s (Penn) manuscript on meniscus injury in a minipig model accepted into the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

March 4 - Anthony Martin (Penn), Jay, and colleagues have an article on nanofibrous scaffolds delivering growth factors for cartilage repair accepted into Acta Biomateriala.

March 2 - Mike and Jay’s review manuscript on the current state of meniscal repair is accepted into the Journal of Orthopaedic Research!

March 1 - Maddie is accepted into the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program at Emory to continue her work over the summer. Jay’s manuscript on cartilage stabilization via reinforcement and sealing is accepted into Advanced Healthcare Materials!

February 12-16 - The Patel Lab attends ORS! Jay also begins his term as Education Chair of the ORS Meniscus Section!

2020

December 16 - The Patel Lab started setting up equipment and supplies, and made our first gel!

October 9 - Cartilage tissue engineering work on resorbable pins to fix scaffolds published in Cartilage.

September 11 - Cartilage stabilization work presented at the Penn Cartilage Repair Symposium.

September 1 - Jay starts as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at Emory University.

August 25 - Work on tissue engineering at multiple length scales presented during a TERMIS-AM Webinar.

July 24 - Jay co-moderated a webinar on “The Future of Meniscal Repair”, organized by the ORS Meniscus Section.

February - The lab is awarded a Kickstarter Grant from the Orthopaedic Research Society and the Orthoregeneration Network. This award funds research on the mechanobiology behind composite scaffolds.

2019

October - Work on cartilage stabilization is awarded a Cum Laude Award at the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation (ICRS) World Congress.

September - Jay started a Career Development Award (CDA-1) with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The award will be transferred to the Atlanta VAMC starting September 2020.
